Only 30 people remain without power in EPB coverage area after Wednesday night’s storms

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – When strong winds ripped through the Chattanooga area Wednesday evening, officials say the EPB Smart Grid prevented or auto-restored power to more than 8,700 customers who would have otherwise experienced an outage.

Officials say that means instead of impacting more than 16,000 homes and businesses, Wednesday evening’s storms only affected about 7,800 power customers.

J.Ed. Marston of EPB said crews continued working through the night and had restored power to all but 500 customers as of 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Because of the nature and severity of the damage, EPB continues efforts to restore power to the last 30 customers.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, EPB projects that these customers will have power by 6-7 p.m. Thursday night.
