5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits North Carolina
An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale hit near Sparta, North Carolina around 8:07 am Sunday morning. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the quake at 9.2 km deep.
The area experienced a 2.6 quake Saturday.
Sparta is located near the Virginia border in the northwest corner of North Carolina.
