6 people shot within 5-hours in Chattanooga;one fatal

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – Chattanooga police are investigating three overnight shootings that left five people injured and one person dead.

Around 1AM on Wednesday, police were called to an apartment inside the College Hill Courts development about a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found four victims including a child suffering from gunshots. The child and two adults were taken to the hospital with what police say were life-threatening injuries. A fourth victim identified by her relatives as a 20-year old woman was found dead at the scene.

Hours after the shooting happened, police had to control a small crowd of family members and friends of the victims who showed up at the apartment and were appearing to walk onto the crime scene. Once the victim’s body was removed from the apartment, the crowd of family members and friends dispersed.

WDEF spoke to Antonio Dave. Dave is a neighbor whop lives several doors down from where the shooting happened.

"People need to wake up and realize that life is not promised to anyone. Go out there and do what you need to do. Go to work. Go to school; just make something out of your life. Because this is not right," Dave said when asked about his reaction to the violence. 

Around 3:30 Wednesday morning, Chattanooga police were called to a shooting in Hixson located in the 5200 block of Hickory Woods Lane. According to Police, that shooting appeared to be a case of domestic violence. The victim is identified as a man who was reportedly shot in face. There’s no word on his current condition.

Around 10:40, Tuesday night, police were called to investigate a report of shots fired in the 2200 block of East 26th Street. Eight minutes after officers arrived, they learned a gun shot victim from that scene showed up a local hospital.

The victim is described as a black male who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

WDEF will continue to update the status of all three shooting investigations as more information becomes available.
