7 women shot on Grove Street; 2 women die
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Violence erupted in downtown Chattanooga Saturday night.
Police say that 7 women were shot on Grove Street while a community block party was taking place.
Two of those women, 37-year-old Labrecia Dews and 21-year-old Keniqua Hughes died on the scene.
Four victims with serious injuries were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition.

Of those four the youngest victim was 14-years-old.
The fifth victim arrived at the hospital by personal vehicle.
She had a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Chattanooga Police Department Spokesman, Sergeant Jeremy Eames says, “There was a large crowd of people out tonight. Nothing that was out of the ordinary for Grove Street on a Saturday night. It appeared to be a block party kind of event, a neighborhood kind of a thing. Nothing appeared to be excessive or dangerous in anyway. So, to what precipitated the event, we don’t know what may have prompted the violence to occur.”
Police say that the suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and they do not have any additional information about them at this time.
