Firefighters battle garage fire

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga firefighters worked to save a house from a garage fire today.

The Chattanooga Fire Department was called to Cleveland Avenue early Saturday afternoon on reports of a vehicle fire in a garage.

Lt. John Meadows with the Chattanooga Fire Department reported the garaged was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived and said the fire was beginning to spread to the house.

According to the fire department, firefighters aggressively attacked the fire and contained it to the car and garage area. Firefighters say there was only minor fire damage to the house itself.

Officials say no injuries were reported.

The Chattanooga Fire Department says a resident was removing the fuel tank from the vehicle when fuel spilled, came into contact with a flood light, and ignited. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.
