93 Blizzard: People Helping People
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Thirty years ago, we had just started learning what previous generations have always taught us.
You can’t always count on the government to bail you out.
The Blizzard of 93 dumped 20 + inches of snow on us, a record for Chattanooga at a seemingly impossible late date (March 12-13).
That much snow simply overwhelmed the ability of government to handle the crisis.
So neighbors had to step up.
People with All Terrain Vehicles kept us moving. Neighbors helped us get kerosene and food. They also revved up their chainsaws to clear downed trees. And radio stations stayed on the air around the clock to connect us all.
So our coverage of the Storm of the Century wouldn’t be complete without these stories of people helping each other in a crisis.
