Grundy deputy injured trying to help a motorist

MANCHESTER, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Grundy County deputy was injured after a confrontation on the side of the highway.

It happened Tuesday Evening in Coffee County at State Route 55 and New Hope Road.

Investigator Larry Sims was actually in Coffee County.

The Sheriff says he stopped to check on what looked like a minor crash or broken down vehicle.

But he got into a fight with the motorist.

The sheriff says the suspect fled in a vehicle and dragged the officer down the road.

The Investigator did fire shots, but the suspect got away.

Investigator Sims was treated at the hospital and released.

Coffee County is investigating the incident.
