International Public Spaces convention picks Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – A New York nonprofit announces they will hold an international conference in Chattanooga this fall.

The event is the 3rd International Placemaking Week.

More than 400 experts in using public space from around the world are expected to attend.

There will be events throughout the downtown area but will also include workshops, public space “interventions”, and tours in of neighborhoods and towns in our region.

“Chattanooga is a city of creators,” says Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke, “and we pride ourselves on our reputation for building beautiful, engaging public places for people in our city.”

“We are honored at the opportunity to share our community with our friends across the country and around the world.”

“We want to learn how we can continue to make great places in a way that includes and represents everyone.”

The Project for Public Spaces in New York is teaming up with The Innovation District of Chattanooga for the conference.

innovation will add much to these critical discussions.”

The two previous Placemaking Weeks have been held in Vancouver and Amsterdam.

The dates are October 1-4.
