Life Care of Hixson Scarves
Residents of a local nursing home and rehab center have found a unique way to help kids go to college.
Residents and the staff of Life Care Center of Hixson have started what’s called the "Red Scarf Project."
Every Tuesday, they get together to knit or crochet red scarves in various designs.
The scarves are then given to students who can’t afford college.
The students sell them to raise money for school, and other expenses.
Life Care Center of Hixson Activity Director Mae Petty says the residents are happy to help out.
"They sit around, they chit chat, and they’re doing something that’s really productive for other people. And that’s what we want to do. We want to reach out to the people who can’t afford to go to college or the school of their choices."
So far the residents have created 33 scarves over the past 6 months.
