Mocs Ready to Welcome Mercer to McKenzie For Rematch
Chattanooga-(WDEF) When the Mocs met Mercer last month, they lost by three in overtime.
So UTC can’t wait for the rematch.
Said guard Greg Pryor,"We always have looked at tomorrow as a revenge game. We didn’t play that well on the road against Mercer."
Mocs coach Will Wade hopes his team brings the defensive intensity.
"We played Mercer and had a ton of missed assignments the first time. We had 26 missed defensive assignments on different things. They’re the best offensive team in the league, so we need to have our best defensive performance to date against them."
Mercer had a ‘Black-Out’ when they entertained the Mocs.
Now they’re bringing a bus load of Mercer fans to Chattanooga.
Said Wade,"It’s exciting because it will add to the atmosphere. Hopefully we can develop it into a natural rivalry. It’s not that far from us. In fact it’s closer than East Tennessee State in terms of just getting there, if you don’t sit in traffic in downtown Atlanta."
Casey Jones does well in traffic well..
He has won the SoCon player of the week award for two straight weeks.
Said Wade,"I think he’s the first player in our program’s history to win it three times in a year, which is great. We’ve had some great players here. Best part is he’s a junior."
Chattanooga is currently one game out of first in the SoCon with four games left in the regular season.
But Coach Wade is not ready to talk SoCon titles or SoCon Tournament seeds just yet.
"If the one seed is still on the table or winning the league is still on the table after this weekend then we’ll go play for that. If the two seed is the best available, then we’ll play for that. Whatever the best seed is we can get, we’ll go play for it after this weekend."
Tipoff Thursday at McKenzie Arena is set for 7pm.
