Blackburn, Ossoff Introduce Emergency Grant
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Senators Marsha Blackburn and Jon Ossoff are teaming up to introduce new bipartisan legislation.
They have introduced legislation that would provide a one-time emergency boost in funding for first responders.
This includes funding for police departments, sheriff’s offices, and fire departments.
Senator Blackburn says after discussions with leaders across the state, federal help is necessary to maintain safety response especially in smaller communities.
She said, “They were talking about how difficult it was to keep people there in those smaller departments because they could drive 30 minutes and get a job in a larger area that is going to pay them more.”
Senator Blackburn said that if this grant is approved by Congress, police and fire chiefs would be able to apply for the grant.
The applications would go through the Department of Justice.
