CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Three cats lost their lives due to an apartment fire Tuesday night in Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) responded after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the apartment at 7:30 p.m. The fire happened at the Emery Apartments at 7604 Standifer Gap Road.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from the building upon arrival. They entered the apartment, in a “heavily involved room and contents,” CFD said.

The fire department said they had the blaze under control just seven minutes later.

After searching the apartment, responders found three cats. They gave the cats oxygen and CPR, but they all died from smoke inhalation.

There was one person in the apartment. HCEMS checked and treated that person for smoke inhalation, but they did not want to be taken to a hospital.

CFD stated the fire was accidental.
