Power, school and traffic all victims of afternoon storms
Tree falls on bus loaded with kids, but no injuries
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Today’s line of severe thunderstorms has taken a toll on traffic, power and back-to-school.
The Eletric Power Board reports 30,000 customers were left in the dark, even if only for a few minutes.
The number is around 8,600 at 4PM.
Sequachee Valley Electric reports large outages in Pikeville and Crossville while Volunteer Electric has their worst in Rhea and Meigs Counties.
Downed power lines and trees have blocked roads all across our area.
Dade County officials say lines even fell across I 59 this afternoon, blocking traffic heading out of Alabama and into Tennessee.
Monday was the first day back for a lot of students in our area.
But administrators had to turn the returning students around and send them home early to avoid the storms.
Rhea County school officials report that a tree did fall on bus #48 as it was taking kids back home.
But no one was hurt, and after an hour, they got it back running again.
The school system reports that there was damage to the Middle School and High School campuses.
