Man convicted of killing Officer Julie Jacks released
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A man convicted of killing a Chattanooga police officer is no longer in prison.
Isaac Jones III was convicted in 2005 for murdering Officer Julie Jacks in 2002.
Officer Jacks was helping locate Jones, who had fled from a nearby mental facility.
She confronted Jones near the Parkridge Hospital. That’s when Jones took her service weapon. He then shot and killed Officer Jacks.
Jacks was only 26 years old at the time of her death.
Authorities sentenced Jones to 25 years to be served in a Tennessee State Prison.
For unknown reasons, Jones was released last Saturday, August 5. That release was roughly four-to-seven years early, depending on if they counted the three years he was in custody before his sentencing.
