CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- We have just learned that a man suspected of killing a prominent Chattanooga businessman and Baylor alum has been arrested by Chattanooga Police.
Late Thursday night shortly before midnight, Chattanooga Police responded to a call of a person shot on the 1-thousand block of Market Street near Patten Towers.
That victim, identified as Christopher Wright, suffered life-threatening injuries and would shortly thereafter die because of them.
Police have been searching for a suspect and now have arrested one.
57 year old Darryl Roberts is the suspect in this killing.
Chattanooga Police investigators say they believe an argument between Roberts and someone else occurred, leading to the shooting.
Police say Roberts was observed by members of C-P-D’s Fugitive Unit along with U-S Marshalls and A-T-F agents in a car in Brainerd.
They followed him and conducted a traffic stop on the 5-hundred block of Tunnel Boulevard.
He was then arrested in connection to Wright’s murder.
He is now charged with first degree murder, and has been placed in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.
We have also learned more about the victim, Christopher Wright.
Wright was a 2003 Baylor School graduate who was on the football team.
Baylor says he has been busy with his classes’ 20th anniversary reunion.
Wright was a graduate of Yale University and the University of Chicago and most recently was the co-partner and founder of local capital venture firm, Alderman Enterprises.
Baylor had profiled Wright for an alumni segment in 2018 and shared that feature with us where he reflected upon his time as football player and student.
Wright remarked in that profile, “I’ve always thought logically. But at Baylor I began to think constructively, and critically, and how to think how other people do with different viewpoints, and began to triangulate on these ideas.”
Baylor School President Chris Angel released the following statement:
“The Baylor School community is heartbroken to learn of the sudden death of Christopher Wright ’03, who would have celebrated his 20th class reunion this weekend with his fellow classmates. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris and his family for their devastating loss.”
Wright spoke in that profile about his fondest memories.
He remarked, “Determination you have to have these days. The resilience to continue on when everything inside of you tells you to quit. It can’t be fully taught, you have to see in others, find it in yourself, you have to struggle through it.”
According to Alderman Enterprise’s website, Wright leaves behind a wife and child.
Wright was only 38 years old.
