SonRise Resurrection Pageant returns to Southern Adventist University

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) – This past Easter weekend, Southern Adventist University put together their 18th annual SonRise Pageant that featured scenes from Jesus Christ’s last days.

Every year, 8,000 to 10,000 people take on the one-mile walkthrough that recreates six different scenes from the Bible.

Members of Southern University want people to understand the true meaning of Easter.

“The key scenes in those final days of Jesus’ life or right to life here, it’s one thing to read about it in a book. It’s another thing to begin to experience it in some way that fires your imagination to understand really put your place,” said Director of SonRise, Ed Wright.

Wright knows how important this event is to, not only Southern University, but to the Chattanooga area. SonRise has thrived bringing in people from all over the country to understand the story of Christ’s last days. Wright and the volunteers working the event also know that he has to put on a show for those that attend.

“Many people are familiar, even in a rather vague way, with a story of Jesus. They have questions on this question, didn’t really happen and resurrection from the dead. Really, those questions need to be addressed. We don’t answer every one of those questions here, but it did provide a deeper explanation,” said Wright.

Lines for Sonrise stretched throughout the Southern University campus as people desperately wanted to hear and see the spectacular recreation. It features thousands of volunteers involved in this masterpiece every Easter weekend.
