HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Firefighters said two cars exploded after a home’s garage caught on fire early Sunday morning.

Hamilton County deputies and Dallas Bay firefighters arrived at the scene at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

They found a fire in the garage at 1942 Light Tower Circle in the Hidden Harbor Subdivision.

At first, deputies could not tell if anyone was home.

Firefighters confirmed two cars were in the garage.

One group of firefighters worked on putting out the fire, while the other group searched the home for any victims. Fortunately, no one was home.

The cars in the garage both exploded while the firefighters were working to extinguish the fire.

According to Dallas Bay VFD Chief Markus Fritts, “We had a hazard to work around one. A live power line fell in front of garage.  Due to the large amount of gas in both vehicles leaking, we had a challenge putting out the fire.”

Dallas Bay fire officials reported that the homeowners were out of town. No injuries were reported but Hamilton County Emergency Services were on the scene for potential injuries to the first responders.

The damages are estimated to be over $100,000.

The sheriff’s office is looking into the cause of the fire.
