UPDATE: Collegedale Police arrest father for leaving child unattended in a car

UPDATE: COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) – Collegedale Police have arrested the father of the unresponsive infant for leaving the infant unattended in a car, causing the infant’s death.

On August 12, Collegedale police officers working in the Collegedale Academy school zone made contact with a driver on the 4800 block of College Drive East. Upon stopping the driver, who has been identified as Timothy Paul Blackdeer, asked the officers to help his small child who was unresponsive.

Emergency and first responders attempted CPR, but they were unsuccessful in reviving the infant. The infant was pronounced dead at TC Thompson Children’s Hospital.

During the event, it was revealed that the child was left unattended in the father’s SUV for most of the day while the father was at work on a nearby construction site.

Timothy Paul Blackdeer, the child’s father, has been charged with reckless homicide and aggravated child abuse or neglect.

This continues to be an active investigation with no additional information at this time.

During a traffic stop this afternoon, in the Collegedale Academy school zone, a small child was found unresponsive inside the stopped vehicle. Officers immediately began CPR. The child was transported to a local hospital by Hamilton County EMS. As this involves a juvenile and remains an active investigation, no further comment is available at this time.
