SOUTH CHINA SEA (WDEF) —  A Chattanooga native was promoted to Chief Petty Officer on the USS Howard while in the South China Sea.

Keyonna Suttles received her chief cover during a Chief Petty Officer Pinning Ceremony on the flight deck September 27, 2024.

The USS Howard (DDG 83) is a Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer that is forward-deployed and assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15.

This is the Navy’s largest DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet’s principal surface force.
