CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Election Day is almost upon us.

Months of campaigning are about to end as Americans head to the ballot box.

One of the primary races we’re going to be following on Tuesday is the Senate race between incumbent Senator Marsha Blackburn and her challenger, Representative Gloria Johnson.

Senator Blackburn is looking for her second term after defeating former Governor Phil Bredesen in 2018. Meanwhile, Gloria Johnson is looking to do something that a Democrat has not done in the state of Tennessee since 1990.

Sen. Blackburn said, “We know Republicans are looking forward to taking the Senate tomorrow. We look forward to being able to do good things for the American people and hope we’re doing it and plan to do it, with a President Donald Trump.”

Rep.  Johnson said, “Regardless of what people have voted in the past, I think we are going to see a whole lot of Tennesseeans voting differently than they have in the past. I think Tennessee is really going to be surprised tomorrow night and those votes don’t look like they usually did. “

Both candidates listed different issues as their most important.

Sen. Blackburn said, “Number one issue is inflation, the economy. Number two is that open southern border.”

Rep. Johnson said, “$7.25 minimum wage. No one can live on $7.25 an hour.”

Both say that they believe Tennesseans are looking for change, albeit different kinds of change.

Sen. Blackburn said, “The cumulative rate of inflation is 20.5%. You see it when you fill up the car. You see it when you go buy groceries. You see it when you buy clothes for kids.”

Rep. Johnson said, “We need people in Washington D.C. who represent regular Tennessee families, because they are not being heard. Regular Tennessee families’ needs are not being met. “

Polls in Tennessee open at 8 a.m. Eastern time, that’s 7 a.m. for our central viewers.
