Fallen 5 Memorial
CHATTANOOGA, TN.- 11 years ago on July 16 a terrorist attack happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The reef of honor was built to honor the five lives that were taken that day of the attack.
“We need to annually recognize the honor in the sacrifice of these brave heroes. These wreaths are significant representing the notions of eternity and continuity in memory and the design of this great memorial. I wish, Mayor Wamp and I were just saying, more people out here and saw it because it’s beautiful and it’s entirely appropriate.” Says Mayor Kelly.
Many people will never forget the events that happened in Chattanooga on July 16th of 2015. Every year since that, there has been a memorial held to honor those who lost their lives.
Mayor Wamp and Mayor Kelly spoke to all in attendance at the memorial and expressed how important it is to recognize those who had paid the ultimate sacrifice.
“As Mayor Kelly said I think it’s important that we come back every year and that we reflect on the loss of these five men as unbelievable as it remains today on their service and sacrifice to our country.” says Mayor Wamp.
One of the speakers, Lieutenant Colonel Brian Wallace for the US Marine Corps, said that this tradition is also to honor the support that the community gave to those who had fallen.
“Every year we come back together, not only to remember the sacrifice that they’ve made, but like today, the conversation talking about the oath that they swore the ideas and the beliefs, the desire to protect others based upon those ideas.” says Brian Wallace, a Lieutenant Colonel for the U.S. Marine Corps.
The speakers also highlighted the contribution that First Responders made that day. They go above and beyond to make Chattanooga as safe as possible.
