Entrance to South Broad Stadium to be on Riverwalk, public transit to be encouraged
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The construction of the South Broad Stadium continues.
Thursday, a different element of the visitor experience was discussed, how people are going to get to South Broad Stadium?
The Tennessee Riverwalk is a big part of the South Broad development, as the stadium’s entrance will be on the path itself and not directly on a roadway.
Architect Tripp Mullins said, “The Riverwalk throughout this development is being designed and developed for chances of improvement.”
With this in mind, considerations are being made to other methods of getting to the stadium outside of driving and parking on site.
Developers believe that public transportation can be a critical part of the infrastructure of the South Broad District.
Mullins said, “Being able to use public transportation from anywhere in the city is not just for the stadium but the rest of the development. The restaurants and stores that will be built along with this. So utilizing the Riverwalk with its access means people are going to have quick pedestrian access to everything that this neighborhood is going to provide.”
With the entrance to the stadium being on the Riverwalk, parking lots are being built all across this particular area to support the future crowds at South Broad Stadium.
One such parking lot is behind the former US Pipe Building, as construction crews are already building one of the four parking lots.
In terms of exact numbers, Mullins said, “At the moment I do not have a parking count for that. The developer and their team have been focusing on that, my focus has been on the stadium and its site. I know all of that has been looked at, as far as counts from the Lookouts at what is being anticipated.”
Mullins also said they plan to build bike racks outside of the stadium to encourage that form of transportation as well.
The stadium is still on track to be completed in time for the 2026 Lookouts season.
