Election Results for Collegedale Commissioner
COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (WDEF) – The public were invited to the Collegedale City Hall at 5:00 pm this afternoon where the Board of Commissioners met to decide the winner of the historic split decision election.
Last week, the two candidates, Billy Burnette and Debbie Baker, received an equal 2,282 votes in the recent election which was officially counted by the Hamilton County officials. The court was left with the decision to have a run-off vote or decide the winner by the council.
During the meeting today, the public were given the opportunity to speak their minds before the council on any current matters regarding the election. Majority, when given the chance, asked for a runoff vote to make the election results a matter of the people rather than the council.
With disappointed community members, including one individual who left the meeting in frustration, the council chose to decline the suggestion for a run-off vote and settle the matter in a Voice Vote on if the current Commissioner, Baker, should continue in the position.
The voting members, Mayor Morty Lloyd, Vice Mayor Tim Johnson, Commissioner Katie Lamb, Commissioner Tonya Sadler, and also candidate and current Commissioner Debbie Baker, all voted “yay” and it was concluded that Debbie Baker is to remain for another term.
