Structural updates for Cleveland and Meigs County

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) The city of Cleveland and Meigs County have been awarded one million dollars in grant funding to restore and preserve its historic buildings.

This significant funding will help breathe new life into some of Cleveland’s most treasured landmarks, ensuring that their rich history is kept for future generations.

In Cleveland, the funds will focus on restoring key historic sites, including downtown structures that have stood for over a century.

The restoration projects will include structural repairs, aesthetic enhancements, and accessibility improvements.

With the Cherokee Hotel and Meigs County Courthouse being prominent landmarks in the community, this grant will allow for a renovation and restoration of the hotel to be home to the new city hall.

Each grant application was reviewed by the TNECD and Tennessee Historical Commission to ensure the grantees’ plans would rehabilitate the structures while maintaining the historical integrity.
