Post-Holiday Fire Hazard: Experts Warn About the Dangers of Dry Christmas Trees

After the holiday season, Christmas trees can pose a serious fire risk.

In fact, more than one-third of Christmas tree-related home fires happen in January, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

As the holiday decorations come down, experts are urging homeowners to dispose of their trees promptly.

Once a tree dries out, it becomes highly flammable, making it a potential fire hazard.

“For instance, it only takes a matter of seconds. I know a lot of people have seen how quickly a dry Christmas tree can catch fire and spread throughout a home. In that regard, I highly recommend you take your Christmas tree down as quickly as possible. Some people aren’t sure what to do with their tree, but we have many places that offer tree recycling services, like our local waste management authority,” said Amy Maxwell, Crisis Manager for the Office of Hamilton County Emergency Management.

Officials say this is A simple step to protect your home and family this January.
