Chattanooga launches Walnut Street Bridge app
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga has revealed the Walnut Street Bridge app to provide updates on the approaching renovations.
The app is now available for download on Apple’s App Store, with plans to roll it out to Google platforms soon.
The Walnut Street Bridge App offers a range of features, including:
- Detour routes and construction updates to help users navigate the area.
- Details about temporary art installations along alternative pathways.
- Exclusive deals and offers from North Shore businesses through a partnership with the North Shore Merchants Collective.
- General information about Chattanooga and its attractions for locals and tourists alike.
The app also includes a free text alert service.
This will provide real-time updates throughout the renovation.

The Walnut Street Bridge Renovation project officially begins on March 17, 2025, with pre-construction preparations, including fencing and platform installations, starting February 17, 2025.
This $35.3 million project will span 18 months and includes extensive upgrades to preserve and enhance the historic landmark, including:
- Stripping and repainting the structure to prevent rust and extend its lifespan.
- Replacing aging timber decking.
- Upgrading wiring for modern lighting and advanced security features.
- Completing structural repairs.
The Veterans Memorial Bridge will serve as the official detour during construction to pedestrians and cyclists.
