CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- An update was provided Thursday morning on the construction at the South Broad Stadium.

The stadium will be the future home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, replacing AT&T Field on the Riverfront.

On Thursday, the Sports Authority Board was given an update by the developers on the status of the $120 million dollar project.

They say that the project is moving smoothly given recent weather issues, as renovations of the Wheland Foundry’s Powerhouse and Pattern Shop buildings have begun.

They also say that testing of the soil at the site, which has lead contamination concerns which led it to being deemed a Superfund site, has returned positive results.

City engineer Billy Payne explained, “To date, there’s been 96 truckloads of material that were identified as special waste, and had to be hauled to a special waste landfill. It’s about 2,400 cubic yards, so very, very, very small proportion of what had to moved and touched on the site, actually met those criteria that needed those special handling.”

Developers still expect the stadium to be ready for first pitch in April 2026.
