Pops on the River adjusts for 2025 celebration

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – One of Chattanooga’s most patriotic summer traditions is making a big comeback — with a few changes.

“Pops on the River,” the beloved Fourth of July celebration held in Coolidge Park, was canceled two years ago due to funding issues.

Now, in 2025, it returns—but with a new challenge.

Brian Smith, Communications and Marketing Director for Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors, explained,

“For years now, we’ve been hosting Pops on the River here in downtown Chattanooga at Coolidge Park. We’re always blessed to have the CSO performing, as well as local artists.”

While the event is returning in full swing, fireworks and music from the Walnut Street Bridge won’t be an option this year.

“Obviously, we will not be able to view the fireworks or the CSO from the bridge,” Smith said. “But we will open up some spots underneath the bridge to make sure that flowing back and forth is as easy as it possibly can be.”

Despite the adjustments, the city promises a full evening of family-friendly fun and celebration by the river, July 3, 2025.

“We’ll kick off things around 4 o’clock in the afternoon,” Smith said. “The Chattanooga Lookouts are providing shuttles—huge thank you to them. The parking lot at UNUM will be open, and shuttles will run from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.”

He also shared what attendees can expect throughout the evening.

“We’ll have a kids’ zone set up, music starting at 6 p.m. with Chattanooga Soul—featuring lots of local talent. Then shortly after, the CSO will perform patriotic music in two sets. At 9:45 p.m., we’ll end the night with the firework spectacular we’ve grown to love here in downtown Chattanooga for well over 20 years.”

Organizers encourage families to grab their blankets, lawn chairs, and loved ones.

This is a celebration you won’t want to miss.
