FBI released details on how Abdulazeez killed five people at Chattanooga military facility

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – FBI agents investigating last Thursday’s deadly attack on a Chattanooga military facility have released detailed information about how it all went down.

According to FBI Special Agent Ed Reinhold, moments after Mohammad Abdulazeez crashed his car through a barrier at the military training facility on Amnicola Highway, he was confronted by a military serviceman who tried to keep Abdulazeez from going into a building where nearly two-dozen military personnel were located.

“A service member from inside the facility observed him and opened fire on him; firing several rounds at him,” Reinhold said.

None of the rounds hit Abdulazeez who was armed with three guns and tons of ammunition. Investigators said Abdulazeez began shooting into the building before going inside and killing one service member.

“He then made his way throughout the building, continuing to shoot at those who he encountered,” Reinhold said.

After exiting the building from the back, Abdulazeez reportedly shot and killed two more service members in a gated motor pool area.

“Two service members attempted to provide cover and assist the military personnel getting over the fence away from the shooter. The shooter continued to fire and killed two additional service members,” Reinhold said.

According to investigators, Abdulazeez attempted to move further into the compound where he was confronted by Chattanooga police. Officers opened fire and killed Abdulazeez before he could kill again.

When it was all said and done, five military service men were left dead. A Marine and Chattanooga police officer Dennis Pedigro were both injured from gunfire that came from Abdulazeez.

Despite neutralizing the threat, agent Reinhold told reporters the investigation into what inspired Abdulazeez to go on a shooting rampage continues.

“The FBI has been working almost 400 leads and has an estimated 250 FBI personnel on the ground in the area and 100’s more working across the country and around the globe on this investigation,” Reinhold said.

Jordanian authorities are aiding the FBI investigation by detaining Abdulazeez’s uncle who has been identified as Asaad Ibrahim Asaad Haj Ali.

There is growing speculation that Abdulazeez may have become radicalized while spending time with his uncle in Jordan.
