National Weather Service issues heat advisory as heat index nears 110
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Just when you thought it couldn’t get any hotter, think again.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown has issued a heat advisory from 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 to Tuesday, July 29, at 8:00 p.m. for the Central and Southern Tennessee Valley, as well as the southern plateau.
The NWS says the heat index could reach up to 108 degrees.
With this heat rolling in, local agencies are urging the community to be safe and aware.
The Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management (HCOEM) says this heat can impact vulnerable individuals including children, the elderly and people with certain illnesses or chronic conditions.
To combat this extreme heat, please stay hydrated and avoid being outside for extended periods of time.
If you must be outside, wear light/loose fitting clothes, and a hat.
HCOEM also says to also be able to recognize signs of heat illness, such as:
- Heavy sweating
- Weakness
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headaches
If you or anyone experiences these symptoms, move to a cooler area, drink water, and if necessary, seek medical attention.
It’s also important to not leave pets or children in a parked car during these conditions, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
