Commercial fire breaks out at Buzzi Unicem Signal Mountain Plant

 

UPDATE (8/4/2025):  Buzzi Unicem released a statement about the commercial fire Monday afternoon.

Buzzi said smoke was reported coming from the solid tire fuel storage building.

Proper plant personnel were notified, and local fire agencies were also contacted.

“I want to thank all of the emergency responders and our plant personnel for their quick action in getting the fire under control and keeping everyone safe.  We value our relationship with the local community and will take appropriate additional steps to help minimize the risk of something like this from happening again.”

Buzzi also said operations were unaffected by the incident.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) launched firefighting operations to tackle the large burning tire chip storage area.

CFD said aerial master streams are being used to douse the tire chip piles, along with several hose lines on the ground.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.


SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) — Fire crews are on scene of a commercial fire at Buzzi Unicem USA’s Signal Mountain Plant.

The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) says crews were dispatched to the plant at 2:26 p.m.

Several 911 callers reported seeing smoke in the area.

While crews were enroute, they saw heavy smoke coming from the area.

News 12 has personnel on their way to the scene and will provide updates as information becomes available.
