Prayer at the Mill brought community members together honoring Charlie Kirk

CHICKAMAUGA, GA. (WDEF) – Tonight, local community members gathered in a powerful display of remembrance honoring the life of Charlie Kirk, the conservative advocate who was assassinated for sharing his beliefs and values.

Erika Kirk, wife of Charlie Kirk, addressed the nation Friday evening through Turning Point’s live feed.

“To everyone listening tonight across America, the movement my husband built will not die. It will not. I refuse to let that happen.”

That was the voice of Mrs. Erika Kirk speaking in honor of her late husband.

She also shared these words.

“My husband witnessed for his Lord and Savior. Now, for all eternity, he will stand on his Savior’s side wearing the glorious crown of the martyr.”

Here in Chickamauga, the community gathered to mourn the loss of Charlie Kirk. He was a man who lost his life for simply speaking out on what he believed and for living by his Christian values.

Mayor Trey Deck of Chickamauga said, “Words cannot even begin to describe the pain or provide comfort in this time.”

A special memorial album was made available for everyone to sign.

This keepsake will be delivered to Mrs. Erika Kirk as a gesture of love and support from the community.

Erika Kirk also reminded those listening, “Because he wanted you all to experience what he had and still has. He wanted everyone to bring heaven into this earth through the love and joy that comes from raising a family. It is beautiful.”

Zachary Lee Brandenburg, President of the Northwest Georgia Young Republicans, spoke to the public about grief and anger.

“It is okay to be angry. Let us take that anger, not sin, and do something good with it. Let us pick up where Charlie left off and make our movement bigger and better than ever.”

Mayor Trey Deck also reflected on the importance of continuing Kirk’s work.

“As the mayor of Chickamauga, I believe we need more people like Charlie. We need people who will engage with the young and people who are not afraid to take a chance.”

The community closed the evening with heavy hearts and shared prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Charlie Kirk.

As a nation, we grieve with you.
