Injured hiker rescued on Signal Mountain

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tenn. (WDEF) – At 10:51am this morning, the Signal Mountain Fire Department was dispatched to an injured hiker on the Cumberland Trail at Signal Point.

According to the office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, responders responded and coordinated a rescue effort that took a little less than three hours and included the use of 3 low-angle rope rescue systems spanning over 1,000 feet of difficult terrain nearly a mile into the woods.

The patient had fallen and sustained an ankle injury and had to be evacuated in a stokes basket.

Due to the manpower requirements, mutual aid was requested, and Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service was on scene to assist with the rescue efforts along with a Rehab Unit from Dallas Bay VFD and Signal Mountain PD. Hamilton County EMS was on scene to treat and transport the patient, and Chattanooga Fire Department provided coverage for Signal Mountain while resources were committed to the rescue.
