The trend of sports personalities entering Alabama politics has hit another bump in the road.
Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron announced on Wednesday that he is dropping out of the lieutenant governor race.
He noted that he had a big lead in the polls, but has decided on taking a new job in football instead.
McCarron will announce that new job later in the week.
Reports say he will be the new football coach for the Birmingham Barons in the UFL.
College football analyst and radio host Paul Feinbaum had flirted with running for the US Senate in Alabama, but decided against it.
Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville is running for Governor of Alabama.
