Preparing your pipes and heating units for the winter storm

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- As the storm approaches, there are numerous things you can do to prepare your pipes and heating units.

Nick Shanks with Lee Company says that to protect your plumbing, they advise you to leave a drip going on your faucet, open your cabinet door, and close crawlspace vents.

Additionally, they advise changing the filters on your H-VAC units, have your humidifier turned on, and set your downstairs temperature higher than your upstairs temperature as heat rises.

Shanks says that even during the storm, they plan to be available to help with any pipe or heating needs.

Shanks said, “Obviously we want to make sure that we’re keeping both our technicians and everybody else on the road safe, so as much information as you can provide the dispatchers as possible will be helpful. But we are standing by with teams ready to respond to emergencies this weekend.”

He says they’ve had a high demand of folks wanting maintenance on their homes before the storm hits this week.

Lee Company has a hotline for emergencies at 423-529-4794 or on their website.
