Ringgold Police Department Warns of Circulating Scam
RINGGOLD, GA — The Ringgold Police Department (RPD) is warning locals of a circulating scam that could affect individuals.
They say individuals are falsely claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House.
They share residents are being contacted by phone and informed they have won a prize or large sum of money, which are fraudulent claims, the RPD says.
They provide the following tips to identify a scam:
• You are told you’ve won a prize but must pay fees or taxes first• The caller pressures you to act immediately or keep the call confidential• The request is made over the phone for payment or personal information
• Social Security number• Bank account or routing numbers• Credit or debit card numbers• Online login credentials or verification codes
Legitimate organizations, including Publishers Clearing House, do not require payment or financial information to claim a prize, the RPD says.
If you believe you have been contacted by a scammer or have already provided information, report it immediately to the Ringgold Police Department and your financial institution.
