Georgia Senate passes income tax reduction bills

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – In an election year, Georgia Republicans are moving ahead with plans to cut the state income tax.

The state Senate has approved bills this week to accomplish that.

One would exempt the first 50-thousand dollars you make or the first hundred thousand dollars for joint filers.

To make up for the cuts, the bill ends income tax credits and cuts many corporate tax breaks.

Another bill sets up a new schedule for reducing the Georgia Income Tax  over the next few years.

Senate Leader Burt Jones wants to totally eliminate the tax if he is elected Governor.

His staff has created a savings calculator at his website so you can see how much the cuts will save you.

You can find his “online savings tool” by clicking here.

The tax cut bills now go to the Georgia House.
