Chattanooga Zoo hosts annual Hug a Bunny Day

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Zoo welcomed families this weekend for its annual Hug a Bunny Day event.

The event served multiple purposes, bringing the community together to celebrate the Easter weekend while also educating visitors about the responsibilities of caring for a rabbit.

Guests had the opportunity to interact with bunnies while learning more about what it takes to properly care for them.

Darde Long, CEO of the Chattanooga Zoo, said the event helps bridge the gap for those who love animals but may not be ready for the commitment of owning one.

“Everyone thinks they’re cute. They can live up to 12 years, so it is an investment and you need to make sure you are ready for a bunny as a pet. I love doing this event. It is probably one of our longest running events and one of our favorites because we accomplish two things. We teach people a lot and they have a good time.”

Zoo officials say the event continues to be a favorite each year, combining education with hands-on experiences for families.

If you missed this year’s event, organizers say it will return next year, giving the community another chance to take part.
