Wildfire in Polk County burning 75 acres

POLK COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – US Forest Service Wildland Firefighters responded to a wildfire in the Cherokee National Forest in Polk County near McFarland and the Hiwassee River.

At 8 P.M., the fire was burning about 75 acres.

Visitors to the Cherokee National Forest should use caution when traveling in the area on Forest Service Road 23 and HWY 68.

Be alert to smoke and firefighting equipment on roadways.
