County defers vote on property near Enterprise South Nature Park
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The advocacy group for Enterprise South Nature Park says they are wanting to see an adjoining area of forest protected.
The property in question is across Volkswagen Drive from the park, and previously belonged to the Boy Scouts.
The city of Chattanooga already approved a purchase of said property, and the Hamilton County Commission was set to also acquire the property last night.
However, multiple commissioners voiced concerns over the need for the county to co-own the property, especially given the planning commission recommended nothing be developed on that land.
Save Enterprise South Nature Park, the advocacy group that formed in the wake of a discussed land swap proposal that ultimately was pulled by Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp, says that currently, that land is zoned for heavy industrial use, and want the county to close on their side of the purchase so the land can be rezoned.
Nathan Griffin of Save ESNP, said, “We are hoping that the county does see that the county and city are coming together to purchase it to share cost, and that they’ll make the right decision for Chattanooga. You know we’re America’s first National Park City so there’s a real opportunity to create additional recreational opportunities here in the area.”
The resolution has been put off by the county commission until their next meeting on May 6th.
