Summer Festival Celebrates Creative Spirit

CHICKAMAUGA, GA. (WDEF) – Art, music, and community came together Saturday as Chickapalooza returned with a full day of activities celebrating the legacy of Rev. Howard Finster.

The event began with a free downtown festival featuring artists, makers, food vendors, and live entertainment. Organizers said several familiar faces from Finster Fest were also part of the celebration.

Chickapalooza highlighted the artistic legacy of Finster, the renowned folk artist and preacher who founded Paradise Garden in Summerville.

The event also served as a fundraiser for Paradise Garden, with a portion of every concert ticket sold supporting the preservation of the historic site.

As the day continued, attendees gathered on the lawn of the historic Gordon Lee Mansion for Chickapalooza’s grand finale concert.

The evening lineup featured Dead Letter Office performing the music of R.E.M., Elevation performing the music of U2, and Disciple of the Garden celebrating the music of Chris Cornell, Audioslave, and Soundgarden.

The event combined live music, local art, and community engagement while supporting the preservation of Paradise Garden and Rev. Howard Finster’s legacy.
