Extreme Heat has climate scientists sounding the alarm

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — With heat advisories across the southeast, it’s downright dangerous to be outside in some places of the country.

This heat wave across the United States and Europe has climate scientists ringing the alarm bell.

We spoke to one professor who told us that climate change driven by fossil fuel usage is to blame.

He says that these high temperatures will continue to climb as the decade continues.

Andrew Dessler, Professor of Atmospheric Science, Texas A&M told us, “I’ve done some research that shows that climate change is increasing electricity bills in Texas by something around $80 a person per year and for a lot of people that’s fine. They don’t like spending an extra $80, no big deal, but for some people that’s a real hardship and it’s just going to keep getting worse.”

Stay extra safe this holiday weekend and make sure you hydrate frequently. The heat index is expected to reach triple digits this Friday.
