EPB Warns About Scams in their Name
Chattanooga, TN (EPB) – EPB is reminding the community to be aware of ongoing scams involving people impersonating EPB employees and their contractors.
People continue to be targeted by telephone scams from callers posing as EPB employees or collection agents who inform them that their electric service will be disconnected unless immediate payments are made with a reloadable debit card. While EPB gives courtesy calls to remind customers of past due accounts, EPB never asks customers to make immediate payments with pre-paid debit cards.
There have also been reports that people impersonating EPB tree contractors have approached customers with offers to perform tree work on a cash-only basis. EPB employees and contractors never solicit customers for payments to perform tree work. Additionally, EPB contractors use clearly-marked vehicles and carry identification showing that they are working for EPB.
We’re asking customers who get a visit from these door-to-door solicitors to call police and give a description of the imposters. Anyone who gets a call from a person claiming to represent EPB demanding immediate payment should call 423-648-1372.
