Mocs Ready For Rematch With Top Ranked Jacksonville State

Chattanooga-(WDEF) Chattanooga kicked off their season losing 23-20 to Jacksonville State.

Now the Mocs get a rematch in the playoffs, with the Gamecocks ranked number one in the country.

When the Mocs postseason got underway, head coach Russ Huesman always felt Jacksonville State was looming on the horizon.
"The brackets never surprised me. It’s all regional. You knew they were going to be on our side somewhere. I didn’t think there was a question about that."
Not long after JSU beat UTC, Huesman felt the Gamecocks were the best team in the land.
"I think maybe after Auburn or the week after that, I started voting them number one."
Jacksonville State is really tough on defense.
They held the Mocs to 110-yards rushing back in September.
Said Huesman,"What are they number one in the country in rushing defense or second in the country? They’ve been really good against the run."
Said running back Derrick Craine-"When you’re out on the field, it’s one of those games where you better bring your best because they’re going to hit you whether you’re ready or not."
The Gamecocks own the last three wins over Chattanooga, and each victory has been by only three points.
Reporter-"What’s it going to take to get over the hump against Jacksonville State?"
Said defensive end Keionta Davis-"Mental. Like mentally push yourself. Two really good teams. We’re going to push each other to the end."
The Mocs head to Jacksonville packing plenty of confidence considering how well they’ve done in big games this season.
Said Craine-"But I think our team is better under pressure. You look at a lot of the games where we had a lot riding on the line was the best weeks we played."
Said Davis-"I think people just get up for big games. I think that’s what it is. I think our team is prepared for it in how we work, and how we prepare. It’s a good time to be out there."
Kickoff is set for 2pm Saturday in Jacksonville, AL. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.
