Wanted rape suspect considered armed and dangerous

FORT OGLETHORPE, Georgia(WDEF) – Police are actively searching for a rape suspect who is considered armed and dangerous.

Fort Oglethorpe investigators have identified him James Works, 42.

Works is facing multiple sexual assault charges as well as false imprisonment and terrorist threat charges.

"The information we have that is based upon interviews with the victim, he’s armed with a firearm and a fixed-blade knife. He’s made threats to injure her or law enforcement officers who attempt to take him into custody," said Lieutenant Steve Blevins of the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department.

According to a complaint affidavit obtained by News 12, the victim is a woman who dated Works. She told police Works asked her to meet him at a relatives house on Forrest Drive. Once she arrived, Works reportedly accused her of having an affair with another man. The woman told investigators that Works repeatedly raped, sodomized and severely beat her. The woman was reportedly held captive inside the house for several days. She told police she escape when Works fell asleep.

Investigators told News 12 there is an abundance of physical evidence linking Works to the crime.

"We have enough probable casue to support the warrants that have been taken," Blevins said.

Last September, a rape charge against Works was dismissed in a Hamilton County courtroom due to lack of evidence. But court records also show he has a page long violent criminal rap sheet in Hamilton County that dates all the back to 1998. Several of those assault charges are similar to the charges he faces now. He’s also faced prior similar charges in Catoosa County.

While Works remains at large, Fort Oglethorpe police are asking the public to call 911 if they spot him.

Works is believed to be traveling in a silver Nissan Rogue with Tennessee licence plate 597XXV.
