Dalton Police find skimmer on bank ATM
DALTON, GA (WDEF) – An ATM shutdown over the weekend at a bank in Dalton.
So a maintenance man was sent out to see what was wrong with it on Monday morning.
But when the worker heard a clicking sound on the card reader, he called police.
They found a skimming device on the ATM, including a plastic frame on the outside with a camera (for recording pin numbers) and a metal stick attached to the card reader.
It was at the Atlantic Capital Bank on North Glenwood.
The ATM detected an error on Saturday and shut down.
So Police don’t know now if anyone lost their debit car information.
They say the device did NOT have a transmitter, so someone would have had to return to gather the info.
Dalton Police say “Anyone who has used this ATM recently should keep a close eye on their accounts to watch for fraudulent activity.”
They also advise all of us to watch for loose pieces on an ATM before inserting a card.
If you have any information or questions about the case, please contact Officer Matias Castillo at 706-278-9085, extension 9352.
