Detained Man not Suspect in Police Shooting

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police have swarmed a neighborhood in the 1300 block of Wheeler Avenue as they continue to search for a man suspected of shooting an officer this morning.

Our reporter witnessed officers leading a man away in cuffs from the neighborhood, but officials say he is not a suspect in the shooting, so officers are continuing their search.

The reward for the suspect’s arrest has been raised to $6,000.

Police describe him as a black male, 5’10-6′, thin, last seen wearing dark hoodie w/ large lettering.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

Meanwhile, the police officer who was shot three times this morning has now been released from the hospital.

Chief Fred Fletcher says he and other officers were searching an abandoned building for transients.

He was shot after leaving the building and drove himself to the hospital.
