Dade County Car Theft Investigation Turns Into Drug Bust
DADE COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF)- In the 1400 block of Potts Road neighbors called Dade County deputies on a tip of a possible sighting of a stolen vehicle that turned into something else all together.
“Sunday we had a truck that was stolen off of District line road we had a tip late last night from an individual that said they might have possibly spotted this truck on this property.”
Investigators say Kevin Wooten and Nathan Austin were on the property where the stolen trucks were found.
Deputies recovered two trucks and two truck chassis on the abandoned property.
Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross tells News 12 that they were already wanted in other states.
Sheriff: Ray Cross stated, “The individuals were on the road leaving that residence, which is next door and they pulled in here and were stopped. The driver was driving on a revoked driver’s license and the other subject gave a false claim to officers and they also have warrants in other states.”
“While we were waiting on a search warrant to get here, we went to the residence where a couple of guys were seen here on this property and got consent to search that house and inside the house also we found approximately 10-to-12 ounces of liquid meth amphetamines and about four grams of crystal meth.”
Charges for Austin and Wooten haven’t been filed yet, but deputies say they will be trying to stick at least the drug felony charges, but there are still some unanswered questions that won’t be solved until the investigation can be completed.
“We don’t have a lot of this, you know every once in a while we have a vehicle that’s been stolen, but we also have a couple more chassis that are out here on this property that we suspect are stolen but we haven’t verified that just yet.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
News 12 will update as more information becomes available.
