Dade County High School Vandalism Update

Update: Two students face charges for the vandalism of Dade County High School.

Prior Story:

TRENTON, GA (WDEF) – Tim Mitchell, a detective with the Trenton Police Department, says, "It is definitely a case of prank going to far."

It was a prank that started with these two young men and a can of black spray paint, according to Trenton Police.

Mitchell adds, "A lot of graphic type content."

Investigators also found spray painted male genitalia, slashed tires, a lot of foul language, and that’s not all.

Mitchell adds, "They also spray painted NSM, which to me indicates North Sand Mountain, which is a local high school just across the Alabama line."

Between the school and the field house, more than a dozen areas were hit.

Even glass windows weren’t off limits.

Cherie Swader, the Dade County Superintendent, says, "They picked up maybe a street sign and broke that in and when they did, of course, they left immediately."

The vandals left more than just $4,000 worth of damage, they left school officials with a lot of questions.

Swader adds, "I’d like to have them right here in my office and say why? What was the purpose? Were you bored? Is there something that’s happened in school?"

Police believe the vandals are in their late teens or early 20’s.

School officials do not believe North Sand Mountain had anything to do with it, despite Dade County’s win over North Sand Mountain during Friday’s big rivalry.

Swader adds, "I think that was something to try and throw the investigation off."

Investigators say not if, but when the vandals are caught, they will not get a slap on the wrist.

Instead, they’ll get slapped with felony charges.

Mitchell adds, "We will catch you."

Investigators say those are not empty threats because the surveillance video they have tucked away in evidence is actually a lot more clear than the video they released to News 12 and other news outlets.

School did not have to be cancelled Tuesday.

However, school officials had to call people in on Monday to start the clean-up process.
