News 12 Then: Riverbend boating in 1988

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – All this week, we’ve been taking you back 30 years in our archives to one of the early Riverbend Festivals.

A lot of things have changed at the festival since 1988.

And one is the riverfront.

Tonight we head out onto the river to see why boaters congregated off the Coke stage for a listen.

In those days, there were no screens facing the River.

But in 1988, they had put up a new sound system so you could at least hear the show better.

However, the appeal seems to be the same all these years later.

It’s cooler and a lot more relaxed, not fighting the crowds.
